Canted camera angles abound in the teaser trailer for Tom Hooper‘s Les Misérables.
The short clip focuses primarily on Anne Hathaway as Fantine and her sterling rendition of the musical’s signature song, “I Dreamed a Dream.”
We also get short glimpses of Hugh Jackman as ex-prisoner Valjean, Russell Crowe‘s policemen Javert, Amanda Seyfried as Fantine’s daughter Cosette, and Samantha Barks as Éponine.
Soak it in.
Les Misérables marks Hooper’s first film since winning the Best Director and Best Picture Oscars for The King’s Speech. For those unfamiliar with the tale, here’s the official plot synopsis.
Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption–a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
Les Miserables arrives in Australian cinemas December 26, 2012.
