>Although The King’s Speech ran away with three of the four big guild awards (SAG, DGA, PGA) last month, a couple of other films were afforded the opportunity to shine at the Writers Guild of America awards.
The Social Network writer (and frequent WGA criticiser) Aaron Sorkin picked up the prize for Adapted Screenplay, beating out 127 Hours, I Love You Philip Morris, The Town and True Grit.
Christopher Nolan nabbed Original Screenplay for Inception, trumping Black Swan, The Fighter, The Kids Are All Right and Please Give.
Of course, David Seidler’s script for The King’s Speech – an Original Screenplay contender at the Oscars – was not eligible for a WGA prize as it was written in the U.K. under their film guild laws. Also ineligible: Winter’s Bone, Toy Story 3, Never Let Me Go, How To Train Your Dragon, The Ghost Writer, Biutiful, Nowhere Boy and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
Discuss: Could Inception take the screenplay prize over The King’s Speech at the Oscars?
